The Macau Design Award 2023 Touring Exhibition – Tokyo Station explores "The Future of Design", serving as both an exhibition and a dialogue on design’s evolution. The visual identity employs visual storytelling to prompt reflection: In a future where AI and culture intertwine, how will design redefine human life’s possibilities and boundaries? Using "deconstruction and reconstruction," the works break traditional design frameworks—dismantling everyday objects, integrating AI, photography, and 3D rendering—to reinterpret Tokyo’s cultural symbols, creating a visual experience that is both familiar and unfamiliar.
Deliberately evoking strangeness and uncertainty, the design challenges conventional perceptions and encourages fresh perspectives. Iconic Tokyo symbols are deconstructed and reimagined through imaging technology and digital transformation, offering a renewed vision of the city. This approach not only questions existing norms but also inspires new interpretations of design’s potential. A series of interconnected visual languages reinforce the exhibition’s theme, sparking deeper reflection on design’s future.
Since 1994, the Macau Designers Association has promoted innovation in design. This exhibition unites global designers to explore future trends, challenges, and opportunities while redefining design’s value. Through subtle uncertainty and refined strangeness, it stimulates creativity, challenges perceptions, and explores design’s role in shaping the future. More than a visual showcase, it is an intellectual journey, inviting audiences to witness design’s boundless possibilities.
